MARKSTRAT

During my first months of the Management course at Luiss Guido Carli, our marketing professor introduced a hands-on project that involved utilizing the platform Markstrat. Markstrat is an educational simulation tool designed to simulate real-world marketing strategies and challenges in a virtual environment.

In this project, we had the opportunity to apply theoretical marketing concepts to a simulated business scenario. Markstrat allowed us to make strategic decisions related to product development, pricing, distribution, and promotion. The platform provided a dynamic and interactive setting, enabling us to see the direct impact of our choices on the virtual market.

By engaging with Markstrat, we gained practical insights into marketing dynamics and learned how to make informed decisions in a competitive business environment. The platform essentially allowed us to run a virtual company and experience the consequences of our marketing strategies in a risk-free setting.

This project not only enhanced our understanding of marketing principles but also developed our strategic thinking and decision-making skills. It provided a valuable bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing us for the challenges of the real business world.

SHARE PRICE INDEX

As part of our marketing project using Markstrat, we encountered the concept of the Share Price Index. The Share Price Index is a metric that reflects the overall financial performance of a company in the simulation. It considers various factors, including product sales, market share, and profitability, to determine the company’s success and, consequently, its share price in the simulated stock market.

In our case, we were the company T, representing TORNADO. Throughout the simulation rounds, our team navigated the complexities of the market, making strategic decisions to improve our Share Price Index. This involved carefully planning product development, setting competitive prices, managing distribution channels, and executing effective promotional campaigns.

Despite the competitive nature of the simulation, our team demonstrated resilience and strategic acumen. Through consistent and well-thought-out decisions, we managed to position ourselves as the second-highest performing company by the end of the simulation rounds. This success not only reflected our understanding of marketing principles but also highlighted our ability to adapt and make effective decisions within a dynamic business environment.

The experience with Markstrat not only deepened our knowledge of marketing strategies but also provided a real-world feel of the impact of those strategies on a company’s overall performance. It was a rewarding journey that showcased our team’s collaborative efforts and strategic thinking, contributing to our success as TORNADO in the simulated business world.
